Eddie Murphy in the upcoming Beverly Hills Cop: Axel FThe new Amazon MGM film The Pickup starring Eddie Murphy is currently filming in Atlanta, Georgia. On Saturday, April 20, several crew members were injured -- two so severely that they were sent to the hospital -- when a car and truck crashed into each other during a scene.

An Amazon MGM Studios spokesperson said in a statement: "Unfortunately, the sequence did not go as planned and several members of the crew were injured as a result. We are still in the process of gathering facts on what happened and why, but first and foremost our thoughts are with those who are recovering. The well-being of the entire crew and cast is our first priority, and we will continue to insist on the highest industry standards of safety while filming. All safety precautions were reviewed prior to and monitored during the shoot."

The worst injuries included broken bones; others sustained "bumps and bruises." Of the two crew members who went to the hospital, one stayed until Tuesday but both have been released and are expected to make a full recovery.

A source told the Associated Press that the accident happened because the truck "locked up" before hitting the car. "It was a completely freak accident. It wasn’t even a complicated or dangerous stunt."

The Pickup, directed by Tim Story, stars Murphy and Keke Palmer alongside Pete Davidson and Eva Longoria, none of whom were on the set at the time of the accident. The film has been shooting in the Atlanta area since February and is still expected to be completed on schedule this June.

Plot details are being kept under wraps and the studio has not yet set a release date. ~Alexandra Heilbron
